In the past few weeks, more than a thousand of these square concrete structures have been loaded on the pictured barge and dropped in the sea off the coast. Khanom, the next diving paradise of Thailand? Let’s hope that the sea temperature doesn’t rise much more.

Youngsters in Nakhon Si Thammarat get creative for sea creatures
“Children in Nakhon Si Thammarat gathered early this month to create colourful undersea homes for aquatic animals.
They painted beautiful designs on shipping containers to be sunk off the coast of Khanom district.
“The containers will become an artificial reef, serving as shelters or nursing grounds for sea creatures,” said Chankij Jearaphunt, managing director of Khanom Power Plant, a subsidiary of EGCO Group.
EGCO organised the “Build Undersea Homes” project – which has placed 18 containers on the seabed this year — in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Nakhon Si Thammarat Office and other organisations.”
